What is concrete

  • Concrete is a construction material .
  • It is a Composition of Cement, Fine aggregate( Sand) and Coarse Aggregate Mixed with water.
  • Concrete is very necessary and useful material for construction work.

Binding Material

  • Binding material is a main element of a concrete material mix.
  • Cement is the most commonly used binding material.
  • When water is mixed with the cement a paste is created that coat the aggregate within the mix.
  • The paste harden, binds the aggregates, and forms a stone like substance.

Aggregate

  • Aggregate is an aggregation of non-metallic minerals obtained in particulate form and can be processed and use for civil construction and highway construction.

Aggregate is classified in two Type

  1. Coarse Aggregate
  2. Fine Aggregate

Water

  • Water is required to with chemicals react with the cement ( Process is called hydration ) and to supply workability with the concrete .

Grade of concrete

Grade of Concrete are classified into three Categories

  1. Ordinary Concrete :- Which is used in PCC or Where reinforcement of steel is not needed.
  2. Standard Concrete :- Which is used in RCC work.
  3. High Strength Concrete :- The concrete used for high rise structure such as skyscrapers, bridge and dam etc.
